How might we better

How might we better monitor large catchment areas. infrastructure and land to prevent the misuse of Water Corp property, improve maintenance programs and keep workers and the public safe?

Problem Story

Large parts of the pipe network link and service rural and regional hubs but, these areas are vast with harsh weather conditions, unauthorised access, bush fires and other things that can affect water quality.

Rangers drive thousands of miles and can take days to patrol the network which is dangerous and wastes huge amounts of time and resources.

Because something might happen to the network 10 minutes after they have finished their inspection and they might not be back for months.

”We tried drones but the area was just too large”.

Scale / Impact

HIGH

Cost to service large areas

Inspections occur all year round

Data Description & Source

  • Catchment area polygon
  • Aerial Photography
  • Satellite data

4 key outcomes / constraints / statements

  1. Thousands of kms of pipe network
  2. Spread over thousands km2 of land
  3. Extreme weather conditions
  4. Infrastructure vulnerable to incident and interference
